Adding the insulation
Over the years, many open beam ceiling homes were built without insulation of any kind. During a re-roof is a great time to add some rigid foam, either 1 ½” or 3” depending on your budget.
First we nail a 2” x 4” perimeter nailer, then lay the foam in against the nailer, then install ½” cdx plywood over the rigid foam with long screws. The perimeter is then finished with a lumber trim wrap around the exterior for a nice look.
